Medication at School

Prescription medication should  be given at home whenever possible.  If it is determined by the school nurse and the parents that the student needs medication during the day, please follow these guidelines:
  1. Notify the school nurse by phone or email.
  2. Send the medication in the original prescription bottle.  The pharmacy will provide an extra bottle for school if you ask for it.  No medication will be administered from envelopes, baggies, or pockets.  Please understand this is for your student's protection.
  3. The bottle should have the students name and directions on how to administer the medication.  All medications will be administered according to the directions noted on the label.
  4. Parent must fill out and sign the "Request for giving medicine at school" form.  See the link below.

Over the counter medication:  The nurse may give Tylenol or Ibuprofen up to 5 times each school year as long as the student's parent has given permission when they registered their student online.  After 5 doses, the student must have a doctor's note to bring their own medication to school.

Please do NOT send medication to school for the student to keep in their locker or take on their own.  This is not allowed as other students may have access to the medication.

Inhalers and eye drops may be kept with the student as long as they have parent permission and are able to use the medication appropriately.  If students are abusing this privilege, the medication will be kept with the nurse.

Cough drops need to be provided by the student.
